JAJARKOT: The Nalgadh Municipality in Jajarkot has systematized the culture of alcohol consumption at the local-level. The municipality has issued a direction seeking to prohibit alcohol consumption in 13 model settlements inside the municipality within the next six months and follow a rule for alcohol intake within the determined time in other areas.
The evaluation of the local government is that consumption of alcohol in an unorganized way jeopardized the social order and peace. Two hours from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the evening until November 16 have been fixed for consuming beverage in settlements except the model ones. The decision came into force on July 17. It will be allowed from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm from November 17 to March 13.
The previous schedule (7:00 pm-9:00 pm) will be enforced again from March 14. The decision was approved by the recent municipality fifth assembly. Earlier, the Aathbiskot municipality in neighboring Rukum West had launched a campaign aimed to systematize the alcohol consumption.
