Political consensus, unity still relevant: NCP Chairman Dahal

KATHMANDU: Chairman of Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the relevance of political consensus, unity, and working alliance among all political forces has not come to an end.

“Let me reiterate that political consensus and unity is still relevant for the country’s prosperity, development and conclusion of the peace process,” Dahal said while taking part in the deliberation on the government’s policies and programs at today’s House of Representatives (HoR).

Labeling the historic political change in 2006 as unique in itself, Dahal said that the change was possible only because of political consensus and unity. Had there been no political consensus, the change would not have been possible,” he claimed.

On the occasion, NCP Chairman Dahal urged the opposition party leaders to present themselves responsibly while making public their views – be it in a public program or in the parliament. “Qualitative presentation is what we look for,” he said suggesting all political forces to come together to create an environment of trust to further institutionalize democratic republican setup.

NCP supremo Dahal urged the opposition party and others not to cross the limit of political culture while presenting their views.

He praised the government for making concerted efforts towards achieving its target of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” in the last one year, which he dubbed as a “year of success”.

“In fact, I have to say that people’s aspirations are yet to be fulfilled,” he said adding, “The process has just begun.”

Dahal, however, said there are challenges ahead, which need to be overpowered. He hinted at the possibility of traditional forces trying to play foul to defame the government and the political parties. “Even though we cannot rule out such possibilities, there is no need to fear of losing our achievements.”

On the occasion, Dahal defended the government’s activities saying that the KP Oli-led government has succeeded in ‘reframing’ foreign relations with neighboring countries, including India and China.
