Schools reopen in New Delhi, air quality unhealthy

NEW DELHI: Schools in the Indian capital of New Delhi reopened on Wednesday after closing for two days due to an increase in air pollution, Indian media reports have said.

The spike in air pollution in the Indian capital triggered a public health emergency prompting protests of environmental groups and residents.

Children returned to schools, mostly wearing face masks, in New Delhi and its surrounding cities.

The air pollution, however, stayed at ‘unhealthy’ levels in most parts of northern India, reports said.

Meanwhile, India’s weather office has forecast a downpour on Thursday. (Agencies)
