Nepal’s air pollution partly attributed to India

KATHMANDU: A study has shown that the Nepal’s air pollution has been caused by the polluted air coming from southern neighbor India.

The smoke and dust particles produced by thousands of brick factories operated in Bihar State of India and husk and stalks of grains that are incinerated after the crop harvested in Rajasthan and Punjab.

According to Rejina Maske, a professor at the Central Department of Environment, TU, smoke and dust particles are blown to Nepal polluting the air of  the cities boarding on India to Kathmandu.

Cities like Nepalgunj, Lumbini and Sauraha that border India are comparatively more polluted than Kathmandu during the winter and dry season.

Currently, Nepal’s air quality is measured at PM 2.5.
