Traffic resumes along blocked highway in Rasuwa

RASUWA: The highway in Rasuwa district that was blocked by an overturn goods-carrier vehicle on Monday morning has been opened after eight hours of joint efforts by the security personnel.

The team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force removed the vehicle, Na 3 Kha 5171, that overturned on the highway after a huge rock fell off a cliff at Tatopani of Gosaikunda Municipality-2 in Rasuwa district, according to the District Police Office, Rasuwa’s Police Inspector Ishwori Bhandari.

Inspector Bhandari further shared that the driver of the vehicle with container carrying Chinese readymade garments was shocked as the stone hit the vehicle.

No human casualty is reported in the incident however the driver, 35-year-old Ram Kumar Shrestha of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality ward no 4 in Sindhupalchowk, sustained injuries in the accident. He has been sent to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Police Inspector at Border Police Post at Timur, Khem Nepal, informed that cases of Highway disruption by landslide or falling stones is a regular occurrence during the monsoon as rainfall triggered-landslides and the landslide debris keep obstructing the highway.

He lamented although three cases of Highway disruption has occurred this monsoon alone but no effort was made to prevent landslide on this road of strategic importance.

Two people were killed while seven were injured when a falling stone had hit them on July 27 this year, police said.
