Neps Chief Chhetri summoned for cyber heist investigation



KATHMANDU: Police have inquired chief of Nepal Electronic Payment System (Neps) Prabin Chhetri in course of investigation into the cyber heist held in the capital recently.

Chhetri has been summoned for investigation into the case, SSP Uttam Raj Subedi of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu told Khabarhub.

Police arrested six Chinese nationals and three Nepali people for their involvement in the country’s biggest cyber heist in the banking sector and recovered approximately Rs 12.63 million they stole from several ATMs in Kathmandu.

Those taken into police custody include Lin Jianmeng, 39, LuoJialei, 40, Zhu Lianggang, 32, Qui Yunging, 30, Chen Bin Bin, 35 and Su Lusly, 36.

They had arrived in Nepal on August 30 and were planning to fly back to their country on August 3. Two other Chinese nationals involved in the debit card scam are at large.

A total of Rs 16.87 million was looted in the cyber-attack from 11 commercial banks and seven development banks associated with Neps, according to Nepal Rastra Bank.
