KATHMANDU: Turkey police said they have arrested a total of what it said 429 irregular migrants, including some Nepalis on Wednesday.
According to Turkish government-run news agency Anadolu Agency, police arrested youths from Bangladesh, Palestine, Nepal, Eritrea, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Syria in Edirne, a Turkish province bordering Bulgaria and Greece.
The arrested were reportedly trying to cross to Europe illegally. The news agency said they have been referred to the provincial migration directorate.
According to the Interior Ministry of Turkey, a total of 268,000 ‘irregular’ migrants were arrested in Turkey in 2018.
