In 10 months, Makawanpur saw 577 cases of divorce

HETAUDA: Some 577 cases of divorce have been registered at the Makwanpur District Court in the last 10 months of the current fiscal year.

135 of them were filed by the male, said Keshab Kumar Kaushik, court’s registrar. The existing National Code which has been in force since August 17, 2018, has the provisions that would allow husbands to seek divorce.

In the last fiscal year, the number of divorce cases registered at the court was 475 among which 194 had been already settled, Kaushik said.

Apparent causes behind most of such cases have been attributed to misunderstanding and the longing for material comforts.
