KATHMANDU: The First Nepal German Business Forum aimed at increasing and promoting Germany’s investment in Nepal kicked off here on Wednesday.

The two-day event has been organized by the Embassy of Germany in Kathmandu in cooperation with the Nepal-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI) and the Investment Board Nepal.

Speaking at the inaugural session, German Ambassador to Nepal Roland Schafer said that a new Nepal-with a stable government and a population eager to hone its skills- is now of interest for private enterprise from Europe and especially from Germany.

He added that the German Embassy was grateful that the forum had become possible with the joint efforts of the event organizers.

The Ambassador also expressed the hope that the event partners would take ownership of this initiative and turn it into a sustainable tradition over the years.

Under the theme, Building Bridges: Nepal-German Business Relations’, the Forum allows German firms to explore the Nepali market and benefit from new dynamics characterized by political stability, energy security and efforts of the Government of Nepal to improve the investment climate, a statement issued by the German Embassy said.

28 company representatives representing 20 German companies and organizations discussed with their Nepali counterparts and exchanged contacts and knowledge.

This Forum aims at promoting Nepal as a place for business and wants to foster job creation as well as investment for production, according to the statement.

“It will contribute to the bilateral economic relations and informs potential German investors about the improving business climate in Nepal,” the statement said.
