KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakash Man Singh has suggested the Nepal Communist Party (NCP)-led government to take action against former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara if the latter is keen on regaining public trust.

“This is the right time for the government and the Nepal Police to regain their public trust,” Singh said at a program on Wednesday while referring to Mahara’s alleged involvement in sexual abuse.

The police and the government, he claimed, had lost the trust after they failed to nab the culprit(s) in the Nirmala Pant rape and murder case.

Singh also demanded that Mahara needs to quit from his position as a lawmaker.

Former Speaker Mahara had on Tuesday stepped down from his post after NCP directives.
