1,873 cases of attempted rape registered



KATHMANDU: The spate of ‘attempted rape’ case has increased across the country over the time. According to the information provided by the central police headquarters, a number of cases related to ‘attempted rape’ has increased in 2075/76 in comparison to 2074/75 BS.

A total of 1,480 cases were registered in the fiscal 2074/75 BS which rose to 1,873 in 2075/76 BS. Fiscal year 2073/74 witnessed 1,137 cases registered. Nepal Police Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DIG) Biswo Raj Pokharel said the number of such cases have apparently increased with the growing reporting of the cases to the police of late.

Attempted rape is a sexual assault in which rape is the intent for assault. Pokharel further shared the attempted rape cases are caused by the victims’ own relatives, known people and neighbors.
