NEW DELHI: India’s ambitious space mission to land a rover on Moon, Chandrayaan-2, is scheduled to launch between July 9 and July 16, according to Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
The ISRO hopes to land the rover on Moon on September 6, 2019, Indian media reported.
The GSLV Mk III of the Chandrayaan-2 mission will carry three modules — an orbiter, a lander and a rover — into space.
While the lander has been named Vikram, the rover is called Pragyan. The orbiter will orbit the moon for the duration of the mission.
The six-wheeled Pragyan will be deployed on the lunar surface to carry out experiments. Meanwhile, ISRO controllers on Earth will control the Pragyan, reports said.
In ten years, this is the second time India is launching a mission to the Moon’s surface. ISRI launched Chandrayaan-1 in 2009, which however, did not include a rover. (Agencies)
