19 killed in Philippines truck plunge

MANILA: As many as 19 people died when a truck carrying more than 40 people skidded off the mountain road and plunged into a ravine in the north, Philippine authorities said.

Police say 22 other people aboard the truck, including the driver, sustained injuries in the accident Thursday night in Conner town of Apayao province.

Mostly elderly farmers and villagers were on-board the ill-fated truck. Brakes failure is the cause behind the accident, according to officials.
