Bara grief-stricken as two-minute cyclone claims 32 people (photo feature)



KATHMANDU: Bara district has been in a state of great shock after 32 people perished in a cyclone that lashed at Bara and Parsa districts on Sunday evening.

Home Ministry has identified 25 people among those killed in the calamity. Feta Rural Municipality is the hardest-hit where as many as 17 people were killed.

Prime Minister KP Oli reached the incident sites to take stock of the casualties and damages induced by the unprecedented windstorm.

Over 500 people sustained injuries in the deadly storm. Seven among those injured have been airlifted to Kathmandu for the treatment. They are undergoing treatment at TU Teaching Hospital.

According to Mahendra Prasad Shrestha, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, the condition of two among those airlifted to Kathmandu is critical.

An emergency cabinet meeting of Province 2 decided to provide Rs 300,000 to each family of the deceased and has formed a five-member high level rescue and relief committee in response to the deadly disaster.
