COVID-19: Eight discharged; seven new cases in Province 1

BIRATNAGAR:  Eight more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from the hospital today in Province-1. They were undergoing treatment at the Biratnagar-based COVID-19 Hospital.

Those discharged today include five Indian nationals namely Mohammad Said, Salman Khan, Malin Khan, Mustakin Alam, and Guddu Alam. They have been sent to a quarantine center set up at Biratnagar-15, Rani.

Likewise, Mohammad Indres, Mahommed Sabir, and Mahommed Sanaul of Triyuga Municipality-3, Bhulke of Udayapur district were also discharged today.

Dr. Sangita Mishra, the medical superintendent of Koshi Zonal Hospital, who oversees the recently built COVID-19 hospital, said they were discharged after three intermittent Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) results showed negative.

Dr. Mishra said Nepalis who recover are sent to their respective home quarantine while a temporary arrangement has been made for the Indian nationals to complete the post-recovery quarantine.

With fresh eight recoveries, Province-1 has seen 26 people recover from the deadly disease until Wednesday, shared Dhruwa Subedi, the press advisor to Chief Minister of Province-1 Sherdhan Rai.

Subedi said currently 26 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment at the COVID-19 hospital built by the Province-1 government. The hospital came into being on April 3.

Meanwhile, Province-1 today saw seven fresh confirmed COVID-19 cases taking the tally to 66 so far. The new cases compromise five from Jhapa and one each from Dharan and Dhankuta.

The seven throat swabs tested positive at the microbiology laboratory of Dharan-based B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

Meanwhile, Corona Information Desk of Province government said a total of 3,707 Polymerase Chain Reaction tests and 9,837 rapid diagnostic tests have been conducted until Wednesday evening.
