Rural secy sued for Rs 178.35 million worth corruption

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has sued Rishi Ram Aryal, a village Secretary, later retired from the post of Section Officer with an allegation of corruption worth Rs 178.34 million.

The constitutional body assigned to curb the abuse of power has filed a case against Aryal in the Special Court, Kathmandu.

Corruption-alleged Aryal had started his service as a Non Gazeted First Class officer on July 16, 1982 and had retired from the post of Administrative Officer of Tokha Municipality in fiscal year 2019/20.

According to CIAA spokesperson Pradeep Kumar Koirala, his expenses and investment in the 36-year-long service period is found to be worth more than Rs 266.69 million.

According to the spokesperson, as the lawful income of Aryal and his family is found to be worth Rs 807.72 million, he is alleged to have earned more than Rs 178.34 million through unlawful means.

He had served his tenure as Secretary in Dhapasi, Tokha Saraswati and Bhimdhunga Rural/Municipality of Kathmandu District.

The CIAA has presented Aryal’s wife Laxmi Devi and his sons Sushil and Sunil Aryal as defendant so as to seize the land bought using ‘unlawful’ money under their names.
