Nepse witnesses steep fall in opening day
Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) witnessed a steep fall in the first opening day on Tuesday.
The benchmark index had remained closed after the Nepal government imposed lockdown in the country to stem coronavirus spread.
There has been a circuit break after it went down by 2.02 percent soon it resumed its transaction.
The transaction plummeted by 25.30 points to settle at 1226. 15 points in an hour after it resumed.
Similarly, Sensitive Index that evaluates the major companies has gone down by 5.39 points. Indexes of all the share groups have witnessed fall today.
A total of 106,312 units of shares worth Rs 104.3 million have been sold in the period of an hour.
600,000 Nepalis abroad to return home once intl flights resume
Almost 600,000 Nepalis have been stranded in various parts of the world desperately waiting for the day the lockdown is lifted.
They will return home once the ongoing lockdown is lifted and international flights resume. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs most of the people featuring in the list are those who have lost their jobs due to Coronavirus.
The others are those who want return home over their visa expiry, and those who had gone on a tour and remained stranded due to ban on the international flights.
‘10% budget should be allotted for health sector’
The lawmakers of the National Assembly have urged the government to allocate 10 percent of the upcoming fiscal budget 2020/21 for the health sector.
Deliberating his views on the principles and priorities of the appropriation bill for the upcoming fiscal budget in meeting of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament today, lawmaker Narayan Kaji Shrestha stressed that the budget should prioritize the prevention and minimization of the COVID-19 and natural disasters.
Similarly, Nepali Congress lawmaker Jitendra Narayan Dev said at least 10 percent budget should be allocated for the health sector.
Qatar Airways to provide free tickets to frontline health workers
Qatar Airways said it will provide 100,000 free tickets to frontline healthcare professionals as a gesture of gratitude and thanks for their work of looking after people during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Airways made this announcement coinciding the International Nurses Day. A statement issued by the Airways said that the giveaway will open on May 12 and close on May 18.
The Airways has urged healthcare professionals to register for this offer at qatarairways.com/ThankYouHeroes by submitting a form to receive a unique promotion code, offered on a first come, first served basis. It said that healthcare professionals from all countries in the world will be eligible for the tickets.
Stock market opens, NEPSE sets up help desk
Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) has set up a ‘help desk’ for handling possible complaints in the secondary securities market.
A meeting with stakeholders organised by Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) on May 8 had agreed to make arrangements of a help desk for hearing the complaints and grievances of investors and for resolving them.
NEPSE assistant spokesperson Aakriti Dangal said the help desk could be contacted in case of any problem or complaints in course of the transactions.
It said one can contact at toll free number 16600125025 for this purpose. The stock market that was closed due to the lockdown before this is opening from today.
