FSU elections uncertain in major campuses of Kathmandu Valley



KATHMANDU: The Free Student Union elections scheduled for March 18 in the affiliated campuses of Tribhuvan University have become uncertain as the election process has yet to begin in most major campuses in the Kathmandu Valley.

The election uncertainty deepened after student organizations, including the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), locked the Padmakanya Campus in Bagbazar. The lockout was reportedly enforced as a protest against what they called an arbitrary decision by the election board to move forward with the election process without holding an all-party meeting.

FSU leader Shobha Sapkota claimed that the election committee distributed nomination papers without consent, even when the election office was locked.

She criticized the decision to proceed with nominations on a holiday, calling it an attempt to conduct the elections unilaterally. Sapkota stated that the lockout would continue until their demands are addressed.

Meanwhile, reports have surfaced that a group of hostel students was taken to Padmakanya Campus last night, further fueling tensions as the election date approaches.
