UAE seeks approval to repatriate Nepalis: Foreign Minister Gyawali

KATHMANDU: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sought approval from Nepal to repatriate Nepalis.

The UAE has sent the letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informing to send back Nepalis through two chartered flights,

Speaking at a parliamentary committee on Monday, Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali said that the ministry has received the letter mentioning the repatriation of Nepalis.

He said, “It is impossible to handle the repatriated Nepalis on their stimulated time”.

He informed that as many as 210, 871 Nepalis need to be evacuated immediately.

Meanwhile, it is estimated that 275,000 Nepali workers are in the UAE, and even if ten percent of them want to return, Nepal would have neither the flight or quarantine capacity to handle them.

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources had warned earlier to impose ‘strict future restrictions on recruitment’ of workers from mainly South Asian countries that refused to take back their nationals who want to return.

It is said that more than 325,530 Nepali migrant workers excluding in India are waiting to come to Nepal.

Similarly, more than 250,000 Nepalis working in India have shown their interest to come to the country.

Minister Gyawali said that Nepal is preparing to repatriate Nepalis who are really in trouble.
