ISSR condoles demise of economist Madan Dahal



KATHMANDU: The Institute for Strategic and Socio-Economic Research (ISSR) held a condolence function to mourn the demise of its Founding Director, Dr. Madan Dahal on Tuesday. The function was organized at the Durbarmarg-based Pavilion Hall.

During the condolence assembly, ISSR Chairman Prof Dr. Bishwambher Pyakuryal, Prof Dr Govinda Nepal, Naresh Shrestha, Dr. Rabindra Pandey, Dr. Dadhi Adhikari and Dr. Narendraman Shrestha among others expressed grief over the demise of Dahal and wished for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

At the condolence ceremony, Prof Dr. Dilliram Khanal, Dr. Raghubir Bista, Bipindhoj Karki, Prof Dr. Sharad Sharma, Mukti Bahadur Khatri, Dr. Shiva Adhikari, Kusum Shakya, Krishna Ojha, Surendra Kumar Upreti and Manawi Singh Shah remembered late Dahal’s contribution in the field of economics.

Likewise, Bijay Shrestha, Prakashraj Sapkota, Ramchandra Bhattarai, Komalraj Dhungel, Sharmila Acharya, Anupam Khujeli, Jhuma Sharma Pandey, Yam Bahadur Karki, Dr. Charka Khadka, Bhawukraj Neupane among others wished for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

Dahal breathed his last while undergoing treatment for stomach related ailments at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) on Friday. He was 72.

Dahal had played a noteworthy role in the economic development of the country. Late Dahal had a good understating of public finance and taxation. The Ministry of Finance used to seek regular suggestions from him on economic development. He had also worked as an international consultant for the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Also the chairman of Operating Committee of Mega Bank, Dahal was the founding director at ISSR.

Of late, Dahal was active on social media and had been expressing his views on economic development of the country, steps for economic development and roles for improvements in tax system.
