KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli says the possibility of opening the border with India immediately looks slim.
Speaking to lawmakers the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar, PM Oli said Nepal should keep the borders shut to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus.
“To tell you, the border points with India will not be opened immediately,” the Prime Minister told Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmakers while hinting at the possible extension of the nationwide lockdown, which ends April 27.
Prime Minister Oli, who is also a Chairman of the party, and another Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal have begun briefing the NCP lawmakers about the current developments, PM Oli’s press advisor Surya Thapa informed.
The discussions have started with the lawmakers from the Far West province followed by lawmakers from Province 1.
This has been aimed at giving a sense of internal party unity after Prime Minister Oli issued an ordinance on Monday that would pave the way for splitting the party.
PM Oli, however, clarified to the lawmakers that issuing ordinances was a regular process and had not violated any norms adding that having 40 percent or not is not going to split any party.
He also said that the ordinance about the Constitutional Council had to be brought as the main opposition Nepali Congress party stopped constitutional appointments demanding share.
He also ruled out rumors that the ordinances were brought to rein in another Chairman Dahal.
