Over 27,000 tested for COVID-19 in Nepal so far

117 suspects in isolation



KATHMANDU: More than 27,000 people have been tested for COVID-19 in Nepal so far.

Speaking at the regular press briefing on Saturday, Dr. Bikash Devkota, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population said that 8,007 people have been tested through Polymerase Chain Reaction while 19,454 people have been tested through Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) methods.

The Ministry has started the RTD test in all the 77 districts of Nepal.

Likewise, 4,536 people have been kept in quarantine and 117 people are in isolation, the Ministry informed.

Dr. Devkota said that 254 people are evaluated in the ‘red zone’ as per the entries made in the app and the website of the Ministry.

People in the ‘red zone’ have high proximity to having infected with the virus and they are under strong supervision, according to Dr. Devkota.

Meanwhile, the second COVID-19 patient of Nepal got discharged from the Teku-based Shukraraj Tropical & Infectious Disease Hospital on Saturday after 27 days of stay at the hospital.

The girl had arrived in Nepal from France via Qatar transit on March 17. Two other passengers boarding the same flight too were also tested positive for coronavirus.

The girl was in the isolation ward of the hospital since March 23.

Earlier, a male receiving treatment at the hospital had already returned home with recovery. With this, only two tested COVID-19 are undergoing treatment there.

Currently, Nepal has 28 active COVID-19 cases.
