Send stranded people safely home, SC orders govt

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the government to send people stranded due to lockdown safely to their destinations.

Hearing a writ filed by Advocate Prakashmani Sharma among others, a joint bench of Justices Aananda Mohan Bhattarai and Sapana Pradhan Malla on Friday made the order.

The apex court has ordered the government to send the marooned people to their homes by adopting safety precautions.

People, particularly students and daily wagers, have been leaving different towns across Nepal on foot amid the extended lockdown.

Earlier on Thursday, a single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla had ordered the government to evacuate Nepalis who have been rendered jobless and having a hard time meeting daily needs in foreign countries.
