Coronavirus kills 673, infects 23,045 in SAARC countries

KATHMANDU: Coronavirus has killed 673 people in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region as of Friday morning.

According to the latest figures collated by Worldometer, 448 died in India, 128 in Pakistan, 60 in Bangladesh, 30 in Afghanistan, and seven in Sri Lanka, taking the total death toll to 673 in the SAARC member states.

Even though the infection cases are rising in Nepal and Maldives, the condition of Bhutan seems to be under control. No one has died from the Covid-19 in these countries so far.

India, the worst-hit among SAARC member states, comes fourth in Asia with the highest number of deaths. Iran is the worst-hit with 4,869 deaths in Asia followed by China with 4,632. Similarly, 1,643 died in Turkey (3rd), 448 in India (fourth).

India

The death toll in India has reached 448 as of Friday morning after 26 died in the last 24 hours.

With 1,060 new cases, the number of infection cases has climbed to 13, 430. Currently, 11, 214 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country. Meanwhile, 1, 768 have returned home after recovery.

Pakistan

Pakistan, the second worst-hit in the SAARC region, has witnessed 128 deaths so far while 6,919 have been infected. The number of deaths surged to 128 after 17 more died in the last 24 hours.
With 536 new cases, the number of infection cases has reached 6,919 in Pakistan. Currently, 5, 146 are undergoing treatment, of which 46 are critical. Meanwhile, 1, 645 have recovered after treatment.

Bangladesh

The death toll in Bangladesh has climbed to 60 after 10 more died in the last 24 hours. With 341 new cases, the total number of infection cases has reached 1,572. Currently, 1, 463 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 1 is critical. Meanwhile, 49 have recovered after treatment.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan has reported 30 deaths and 840 people have been infected as of Friday morning. Currently, 756 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 54 people have recovered home after treatment.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has reported seven deaths and 238 infection cases. Currently, 163 are undergoing treatment while 68 have returned home after recovery.

Nepal

Nepal has reported 16 infection cases. Two among them have returned home after recovery. No one has died from the novel virus so far in the country.

Maldives

The number of infection cases has reached 25 in the Maldives. A total of 16 of them have returned home after treatment. No one has died from Coronavirus so far in the country.

Bhutan

Bhutan is the least affected country in the SAARC region.

Bhutan has five infection cases. Two among those infected with the novel virus have returned home after treatment while the three are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
