LONDON: An unidentified group of people set a fire to a car belonging to a former British Gurkha army in Maidstone in the south east region of the United Kingdom (UK).
According to Kent-based news portal reports, an explosion went off at 11 pm on Wednesday and when the family came out of their house, they saw their car blazing.
The car belonged to retired British Gurkha army Ram Kumar Limbu, the reports said. Similarly, another car was set on fire at Fant Lane, one hour later. The car also belonged to a Nepali family.
“I heard a loud explosion at night. When I came out of the house I saw our car blazing. Then I informed fire fighters, police and neighbors,” a Kent-based news portal quoted Limbu’s son as saying.
Dinesh Khadka, Councilor (Nepali origin) of Maidstone has said that the incident could be the outcome of the racial hatred that cropped up following the Coronavirus outbreak.
Maidstone is thickly populated by former British Gurkhas.
