KATHMANDU: Panicked by the wide-spreading coronavirus, nearly 77 percent of the Nepalis abroad are willing to return to their motherland, according to Non-Resident Nepalis’ Association (NRNA).
With the explosive outbreak in Europe and America, most of the Nepalis living there have shown interest in returning home.
According to NRNA, 77% of Nepalis giving call in NRNA’s 24 hr helpline have been requesting the organization to facilitate their return home country.
According to Dr. Hem Raj Sharma, the General Secretary of NRNA, most of the Nepalis who phone at NRNA’s helpline have been requesting the organization to make room for their safe return to their motherland.
“77% of the Nepalis who call at our hotline have requested us to facilitate in their return,” Sharma said, “11% have opted for travel to some other countries.”
Most of the Nepalis in middle-east have lost the jobs and some of them have even resigned to go home.
According to Sharma, most of the parents of the migrant labors are more worried and have been requesting NRNA to work for their return.
There are thousands of Nepalis stranded in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Nainital, Hariyana and New Delhi at the verge of starvation.
Sharma said that NRNs in UAE, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mozambique, Finland, USA, UK etc. have recorded their problems at the organization.
NRNA Chair Kumar Panta informed that hundreds of Nepalis have given call to request to help them in VISA extension.
According to him, NRNA has been working in close contact with various national committees of NRNA and Nepal’s diplomatic mission abroad to resolve the burning problems of NRN.
Chiran Sharma, the Press Coordinator of NRNA’s COVID-19, High-Level Committee informed that the committee was collecting the data of the affected Nepali community, and was working on procurement and supply of the most essential health materials home.
