France extends lockdown up to May 11

PARIS: France has decided to extend its nationwide lockdown put in place to contain the spread of the new coronavirus for a second time,  taking it up to May 11.

In his third address to the nation after the pandemic outbreak, President Emmanuel Macron  has declared the lockdown extension till May 11.

France has 136,779 coronavirus cases so far and 14, 967 have lost their lives in it.

According to the Élysée Palace, President Macron had been speaking to a large number of public and private actors- French, European and international- on what is at stake concerning Cov-19 before the decision to extend the lockdown was made on his television address on Monday evening.

In his television address Macron has assured that the schools can be resumed from May 11, though the international border of France would be continuously shutdown till further notice.

He assured the people and the medics that the government had been striving to ensure availability of enough quantity of most essential health materials like PPE, masks and gloves.
