KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture, Ghanashyam Bhusal has said the ban in the export of agricultural produce and the hike in prices could result in a difficult situation to meet the demand.

He also warned all local government bodies about the possibility of famine as agricultural activities have not been smooth owing to coronavirus outbreak.

In a letter to the chiefs of all 753 local governments in the country, Minister Bhusal said the current situation will result in a decrease in foreign jobs because of which the number of Nepali migrant workers returning home will increase.

This, he said, will also affected the working-age group in the country.

Minister Bhusal said the agricultural sector would play an important role in tackling the socio-economic challenges in the country amid the coronavirus crisis.

Meanwhile, the ministry has put forth the policies to avoid such a situation that include equal distribution of relief packages for production, insurance of the crops and livestock, easy loan packages and technological assistance for farmers, and good prices for their production.
