FNJ condemns threat to journalist

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the threat issued to FNJ Khotang secretary Uttam Chaulagain over the publication of news.

Nepali Congress president in the district Naresh Kumar Shrestha issued the threat over the news publication.

Chaulagain had published a news story on www.prabhavnews.com three days back.

Issuing a press release FNJ General Secretary Ramesh Bista today said if there was complaint on news content, it could be addressed legitimately.

But issuing threat over the news is violation of press freedom, he added in the press statement. The local administration should be aware that journalists have the right to reporting in free atmosphere.

Their security need to be addressed. At a time when the journalists are ensuring citizen’s right to information despite facing risk in this crisis, cooperation to them is essential, he added.
