Foreign Minister Gyawali holds talks with Australian counterpart

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali on Monday held a telephone conversation with his Australian counterpart Marise Payne to take stock of Nepali nationals in Australia.

A press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Australian minister Payne appreciated the Nepal Government’s support to facilitate the repatriation of Australian tourists who were stranded in Nepal.

Meanwhile, Minister Gyawali urged his counterpart for the safety of Nepali nationals, particularly Nepali students in Australia amid COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement said that they discussed the potential direct flight of Nepal Airlines (NA) to Australia stating that the chartered flight last week provided an opportunity to assess the technical feasibility for future commercial flights.

Over 60 thousand Nepali students are currently in Australia.

It should be noted that Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison had last week suggested international students to leave Australia if they were not able to survive themselves.
