PM Oli says ‘Yes’ to Modi’s idea of setting up COVID-19 Emergency Fund

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Oli has agreed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal of setting up a COVID-19 Emergency Fund to combat the deadly virus in the region.

“We would like to contribute to this,” PM Oli said.

“We need to focus on awareness and joint efforts to combat this virus. Volunteers need to be mobilized,” he suggested adding, “We have to encourage people to refrain from attending gatherings and prevent unnecessary foreign travels.”

On the occasion, PM Modi also suggested greeting people with ‘Namaste’ rather than shaking hands, which he claimed, can help prevent the virus from spreading.

He also said that hospitals in the bordering areas can also be utilized for screening and treating infected patients.

PM Oli proposed setting up a SAARC-level mechanism such as a SAARC-level Medical Center.
