Spanish national attacked with khukuri at Thamel

KATHMANDU: Nepal has a unique tradition to respect a guest like a god. The government has made Athiti Debo Bhava (guests are equivalent to gods) as the slogan to promote tourism in Nepal.

Despite having this slogan at the core of the Nepali culture, an incident took place on last Saturday at Thamel, a center of tourist attraction, making the mockery of the slogan.

A Spanish national who had gone to a Thamel-based restaurant to have a meal was brutally attacked by an assailant with a khukuri.

Spanish national Jaume sustained injuries to his head when he intervened in a clash among youths that cropped up over the issue of a girl.

Jaume has been staying in Nepal for the last 18 months.
