COVID-19 fallout: Domestic aircraft to drop scheduled flights

KATHMANDU: Domestic airline companies of Nepal have said they will be compelled to keep many aircraft grounded so as to control costs claiming that they do not have sufficient passengers.

The airlines said the current fears of coronavirus have resulted in a significant fall in the number of foreign tourists.

Saying that the number of passengers has dropped significantly, the Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) said it will urge airline companies to drop scheduled flights regularly.

The AOAN has also planned to send some staff on non-paid leaves adding that the number of domestic air passengers has decreased by over 40 percent in the first two months of 2020.
