Six firms penalized for hiking mask prices

KATHMANDU: With Nepal at high risk of coronavirus, the government has taken action against various six firms and dealers for their involvement in black marketeering of medical goods including mask and sanitizers.

A team deployed from the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumers Protection Management on Wednesday fined Chhetrapati-based Nepal Care and Surgical Suppliers Rs 200,000 for creating artificial shortage of mask and hiking the prices of mask.

The investigation carried out by the Department found that it was selling at high price creating artificial shortage of the medical goods.

Similarly, Sachin Trade Concern has been fined Rs 10,000 for selling mask at high prices without bills while the other eight firms have been warned.

Likewise, those facing music include Khanal Surgery Suppliers, Tripureshwor, Archana Surgical Suppliers and Fishtail Surgical House. They were found selling mask and sanitizers at high prices.

Earlier on Monday, the Department had fined Tripureshwor-based Swastik Surgical Suppliers Rs 20,000 for hiking prices of mask.
