Police nab eight Chinese nationals for working illegally

GORKHA: Police have arrested eight Chinese nationals for working illegally in Nepal.

Police arrested them while they were working illegally at Upper Budhigandaki hydropower project operated by Naulo Nepal Hydropower Company on Monday, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Om Adhikari.

The arrested are Tyang Guwang Lin, Tyang Dakwin, Tyang Jun, Tyang Jiyanhuwa, Tyang Yujen, Yang Chun, Yang Jiyachun and Linghu Kesheng.

According to Chief District Officer (CDO) Surendra Paudel, they were arrested from Soti of Arughat rural municipality and handed over to the Department of Immigration (DoI) on Monday evening itself.

Earlier, Naulo Nepal Hydropower Company had employed 15 Chinese nationals without legal documents. “Earlier, too, we had received information that Chinese nationals were working without valid documents at the hydro project. We urged them to furnish legal documents without delay,” said CDO Paudel.

He further said that some of them escaped instead of furnishing the documents. “We arrested the remaining eight Chinese and handed them over to the DoI,” he added.

“Some of them had visa but no work permit. We took them under control after they disobeyed our warning one week ago,” said Adhikari.
