Govt passes proposal to award 13th SAG winners

KATHMANDU: The government has endorsed the proposal to award winners of the recently held 13th South Asian Games.

The Cabinet meeting passed the proposal to amend the sports award and honor procedure (first amendment) put forward by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Following this, the way to award SAG winners has opened. According to the amended procedure, SAG gold medal winners will get Rs 900,000 each, silver winners Rs 600,000 and bronze winners Rs 300,000.

Those who have won more than one gold medals will receive Rs 1. 1 million for each medal.

Swimmer Gaurika Singh won four gold medals in the 13th SAG, and Taekwondo player Ayesha Shakya and karate player Mande Kaji Shrestha won two each.

Similarly, a group winning the gold medal in the SAG will receive Rs 500,000 each person, silver medal winners Rs 300,000 each and bronze winners Rs 200,000 each. Coaches of those players winning a gold medal will receive Rs 500,000 each. Nepal bagged a total of 206 medals in the SAG (51 gold, 60 silver and 95 bronze).

Following the event, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced a package of cash awards to the Nepali athletes and coaches.
