Thai police shot down soldier who killed 26 people



BANGKOK: Thai authorities said a soldier who went on a shooting rampage killing at least 26 people and injuring 42 others has been shot dead inside a mall in northeastern Thailand.

Authorities said the soldier had on Saturday first killed two people and went on a shooting rampage over a financial dispute.

Thai Defense Ministry spokesman Lt. Gen. Kongcheep Tantrawanich said that Sgt. Maj. Jakrapanth Thomma was involved in the attack in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand rural northeastern region.

The shooting occurred at Terminal 21 Korat. Several people were evacuated from the mall while police searched for the gunman.

Sixteen hours later, authorities organized a press conference outside the mall announcing that the police shot the soldier.

The officials, however, did not release any details.
