Landslide obstructs Beshishahar-Chame road

LAMJUNG: The Beshishahar-Chame road section connecting Manang district with Lamjung has been obstructed following the rain-triggered landslides since 11.00 am today.

The rainfall that began since Thursday caused landslides in various places along the road such as Syange of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality and Siran Lake in Chaymche and Naasong rural municipality, according to Road Division Office, Damauli’s Sub-Engineer Suman Adhikari.

Efforts were underway to clear the debris of the landslide with the help of dozers to resume the traffic movement in the only road connecting Manang district with the rest of the country.

Tourists coming for trekking in the Annapurna area and commuters were stranded along the way due to the natural disaster. The road could remain obstructed until tomorrow, said sub-engineer Adhikari.

Many of the stranded foreign tourists had opted to make a perilous journey on foot as the landslide continues unabated in various places of the 65-kilometer road.
