Seven feared buried as avalanche hits Annapurna Base Camp



KATHMANDU: Seven people including four Korean tourists have been feared buried after an avalanche hit Deurali of Annapurna Base Camp, a popular trekking destination in western Nepal.

Three Nepalis too are feared buried under the avalanche, it has been reported.

District Police Office, Kaski, however, said that it has been informed that one person has been buried in the avalanche that hit Annapurna Base Camp area located in Annapurna Rural Municipality-11.

SP Dan Bahadur Karki told Khabarhub that one person has gone missing in the avalanche.

“There are many rumors circulating right now,” he told Khabarhub, “As far we can confirm, one person has gone missing.”

According to SP Karki, it takes two days on foot to reach the incident site from a police post located at the base camp.

“Even choppers can’t reach the incident site due to adverse weather,” SP Karki told Khabarhub.

He added that five people have been rescued. Shelters have been managed for them at a place called Himalaya.
