POKHARA: Minister for Forest and Environment, who is also the Chairman of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), Shakti Basnet, has promised to run ACAP in a new way—more systematic and revised.
At a program organized by the Ministry in Pokhara on Thursday, Basnet said that the ACAP would be well utilized to ensure ownership to the locals by making policies accordingly.
The conservation areas are run in a traditional way despite the country embraced federalism, he said, adding locals’ rights would be ensured in the use of natural resources.
Saying that maximum utilization of natural resources would be done for prosperous Nepal, happy Nepalis, Minister Basnet stated monitoring of the federal and State and management of the local level is the need of the hour.
He viewed that only proper use of natural means and resources would ensure the development of the country.
Also speaking at the program, Chief Minister of Gandaki State Pritvhi Subba Gurung said the ACAP should not be dissolved at the moment but its management should be done by ensuring people’s rights.
The revenue collected from the tourists, forest and mountaineering should be distributed as per provision of the Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission.
Former Minister and member of federal parliament Khagaraj Adhikari, Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment of Gandaki State Bikas Lamsal and others expressed their opinions on the occasion.
