45 bulls lock horns in Nuwakot festival



NUWAKOT: A traditional bull-fighting festival has begun in Nuwakot district on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti on Wednesday.

A total of 45 pairs of bulls are locking horns as part of the celebration of the festival in three different places in the district, according to Bhoj Bahadur Bhandari, chairman of Maghe Sankranti Bull-fighting Conservation Association.

Twenty-two pairs of oxen are locking horns in Tarkeshwor rural municipality-3, 15 pairs of oxen at Betrawati of Bidur Municipality-10 and eight pairs of oxen in Panchakanya rural municipality-3 in the traditional festival, which is held every year on the first day of the Nepali month Magh.

The owners of the successful oxen will be awarded with a cash prize along with certificates.

People from various parts of the country including the capital have reached Nuwakot to observe the bull-fighting festival.
