Rawal says he received ‘threat call’ from Baluwatar

KATHMANDU: Standing committee member of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Bhim Rawal claimed he received a ‘death threat call’ from Baluwatar asking him to refrain from making statements against the widely-debated Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Rawal, who has been a vocal critic of MCC, said he received a call from a person who works at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, recently.

“I received a death threat from a person in Baluwatar. The caller threatened me of dire consequences if I remained adamant on the issue,” Rawal said adding, “This is unfortunate.”

He, however, did not disclose the person’s identity.

Rawal, who is also the former Home Minister, added that such threats would not stop him from squelching his voice for the sake of the nation. “What the person should understand is that I will not deviate from my nationalist position,” he said.

He added that he would not be deterred by such threats saying that he is determined with his commitment that he has made before the people.

“I challenge these people to prove that my position on MCC is wrong,” he added.

Meanwhile, asked to confirm the issue, Prime Minister KP Oli’s press advisor, Surya Thapa dismissed the allegations claiming that Rawal has been dexterous in distorting information.

“It seems that he (Rawal) does not have in-depth knowledge on the issue,” Thapa told Khabarhub adding that Rawal has been trying to divert the issue in one way or the other.
