ECN allots election symbols to 11 parties



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission Nepal (ECN) has provided election symbols to the 11 political parties taking part in the National Assembly elections. The election is taking place on January 23.

According to the ECN, Nepal Communist Party has been allotted Sun as an election symbol, Nepali Congress (tree), Socialist Party (hand), Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (slanted umbrella), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party has been allocated cow as an election symbol.

Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (United) has been provided plough, Rastriya Janamorcha (glass), Nepal Workers Peasants Party (NWPP) (madal) and Nepal Federal Socialist Party been allotted bus as an election symbol.

Meanwhile, the EC has designated seven district judges as the returning officers while two judges have been picked as contingency election officers.

According to the EC, Medani Prasad Paudel of Morang has been designated as a returning officer. Likewise, Raj Kumar Khatiwada of Dhanusha, Mohan Bahadur Karki of Lalitpur, Kaji Bahadur Rai of Kaski, Ritendra Thapa of Dang, Raj Kumar Acharya of Surkhet and Bidur Kafle of Doti have been picked as returning officers.

Similarly, Kailash Prasad Subedi and Diwakar Bhatta have been designated as ‘reserved’ election officers.

The EC appointed them as returning officers in consultation with the Judicial Council.
