KATHMANDU: The newly appointed British Ambassador to Nepal Nicola Pollitt paid a courtesy call on Minister for Finance Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada at the latter’s office in Singha Durbar on Tuesday.
On the occasion, Minister Khatiwada and British envoy Pollitt discussed a wide range of matters on mutual interests between Nepal and the Great Britain. Minister Khatiwada extended the thankfulness to the British government for its cooperation for post-quake reconstruction in Nepal.
He briefed the British Ambassador of the economic measures taken up to ensure reforms in the economic landscape of the country, including progress achieved in implementation of federalism and the like, according to a press statement released by the Finance Ministry.
During the meeting, the Finance Minister also made aware the British Ambassador about the process forwarded by the government of Nepal in regard to double taxation avoidance with Britain.
He also urged Ambassador Pollitt to request the prospective British investors to consider investment in Nepal’s tourism, hydropower and roadway among other sectors and to encourage as many as Britons to visit Nepal in 2020.
Nepal is observing Visit Nepal 2020 with the aim of bringing in as many as 2 million foreign tourists to Nepal in 2020. In reciprocation, Ambassador Pollitt, who is the first ever female ambassador from Britain to Nepal, assured of continued UK assistance to Nepal in line with the priorities set by the government of Nepal.
