Nepali Congress holding CWC meeting today

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition, is holding a meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the party on Sunday.

The meeting has been slated at the party’s headquarters in Sanepa at 1 pm. The meeting has been summoned to discuss the proposals floated by President Sher Bahadur Deuba at CWC on Thursday.

Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel will not attend the meeting as he is out of the town.

It may be noted that senior leader Poudel side leaders had boycotted the December 12 central committee meeting demanding presentation of work schedule.

Poudel and Deuba on Saturday held a discussion to forge consensus on the matters concerning the upcoming 14th general convention.

The establishment side is planning to continue the central committee meeting scheduled today and discuss the formation of central departments despite failure to forge consensus.

If the timeframe stipulated in the party statute is followed, the 14th general convention should be held on 13 March 2020. The statute has granted authority to the party leadership to prolong the general convention by a year in case of special circumstances.
