KATHMANDU: Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya on Monday said defeated election contestants sharing happiness and garlanding the winners is a good trend.
“This trend disseminates a message that elections are organized in a fair, free and credible way. We should encourage and establish this tendency,” he said at an event organized here to thank all those deployed for the recently held by-polls.
He said the by-polls have been concluded successfully and a low budget has been spent on election-related activities and publicity and voter education.
“The by-polls that have been concluded in a fair, free and impartial way is the result of our collective and good efforts,” he said.
Similarly, Spokesperson for the EC, Raj Kumar Shrestha claimed that the by-election was held successfully and with a comparatively low budget.
The EC has made public final results of the by-poll that was held in 37 districts to elect members of the House of Representatives, State Assembly and local levels.
A total of 5,054 employees and 310 voter educators were deployed for the by-election.
