SAG 2019: Nepal adds 7 gold, 2 silver medals to its tally



KATHMANDU: Nepal has continued its winning streak in securing gold medals in the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) underway in Kathmandu.

The number of medals hit nine on its tally – seven gold and two silver medals – after  Laxman Tamang won a gold medal in Karate event in the 55-kg category.  He defeated Bangladeshi player Mohammad Mostafa by 1-0.

Earlier, Karate player Mande Kaji Shrestha secured two gold medals.

Mande Kaji won a gold medal in the Karate Single Kata event and the other in Group-wise Kata event.

Likewise, Sina Maden Limbu won a gold medal in the Taekwondo event. She won the medal in the 17-23 years age category.

Sina scored 8.150 points while India’s Rupa Bayor grabbed a silver medal scoring 8.130 points. Sri Lanka had to  satisfy with a bronze medal.

Likewise, a team comprised of Nirmala Tamang, Saru Karki, and Ranjita Malla earned a gold medal. Nepal scored 24.88 points while Pakistan bagged silver medal scoring 23.3 points.

Likewise, Kamal Shrestha won a gold medal in the Taekwondo event.

Shrestha defeated Pakistani player Niyamtullaha in the final match. He scored 24 points against 22.8 points obtained by Niyamtullaha.

Similarly, Sony Gurung won a gold medal in the Triathlon tournament held at Lakeside, Pokhara.

Meanwhile, Karate player Chanchala Danuwar won the silver medal in the Karate event.

So far, Nepal has bagged nine medals in the multi-sports event.
