Nepal by-elections: Places where the victory dice reversed

KATHMANDU: The vote counting of most of the places which underwent by-elections on Saturday is nearly over. The result has shown the downing gear of the former winners of those places.

The competition this time is found to be the one between the ruling Nepal Communist Party and Nepali Congress the main opposition in the parliament.

Nepali Congress managed to bag six local levels and one province-level posts formerly won Nepal Communist Party, whereas the ruling Nepal Communist Party seized seven posts formerly won by Nepali Congress.

NCP has bagged one more post formerly won by an independent candidate.

Bhaktpur 1 ‘A’ formerly won by NCP has gone on the side of the Nepali Congress. In Bhaktapur, when NC candidate Krishna Lal Bhandel got victory getting 13,449 votes, his opponent Devi Prasad Dhakal from NCP scored 11,206 votes only.

The demise of Hari Sharan Lamichhane, an NCP representative had led to by-elections in Bhaktapur.

Similarly, the Socialist Party has managed to get victory in two Wards where it had undergone defeat in the previous election; and Rastriya Janata Party has also reversed the position by bagging a post it was defeated last time.
