Education Ministry to hold talks with medical colleges again

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education will sit down again with the operators of the private medical colleges on the issue of refunding excess fees charged to the students.

Minister for Education Girirajmani Pokharel asked the operators to clarify their position in the next sitting.

During an earlier meeting at the ministry, the operators have claimed that they had charged the students as per the correspondence from Kathmandu University and the fees charged to all the students can’t be reviewed.

They had remained adamant about not returning the additional fees charged from the students even with the government’s 15-day deadline ending on Tuesday. Minister Pokharel had postponed the meeting after the medical colleges remained firm on their position.

After the meeting, Minister Pokharel held a meeting with Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa, Attorney General Agni Kharel, IGP Sarbendra Khanal, Vice-Chairman of Medical Education Commission Shree Krishna Giri and Education and Home Secretaries.

The meeting had concluded deciding to hold another round of meeting with medical colleges.

The deadline issued by the government to medical college expired today. Although the government had warned them of booking for fraud, the colleges have remained adamant on not refunding the excess fees.
