KATHMANDU: Bowing down to the demands of medical students and government’s ultimatum, Nepal’s private medical colleges have decided to return the extra fee they had earlier charged from MBBS students.

The colleges agreed to return the extra fees at a meeting held at the Ministry of Education Monday evening soon after the government gave a 24-hour ultimatum to return the extra fees.

The promoters of the medical colleges expressed their commitment on the issue by Tuesday.

It should be noted that a meeting at the Home Ministry on Monday evening given an ultimatum to the colleges warning of stern action if the colleges paid no heed to the government’s instruction.

MBBS students have been protesting across the country demanding that the extra money taken by the colleges be returned.

A meeting of the cabinet on October 14, 2018 had set a fee of Rs 3.85 million for MBBS students inside the Kathmandu Valley. Likewise, the government had set Rs 4.245 million to students outside the valley.
